Major Change to Saturday Road Rides – Effective Saturday 28th March
avatar

So it’s nearly cycling nirvana time or in everyday parlance British Summer Time. Fantastic! Our experience over the years indicates that it’s about now that our rides become more popular. With that in mind we chose the recent and very productive rides review meeting, to think of a refresh for all our Saturday road rides. You already know we had a very positive and constructive discussion and ended up unanimously supporting a change to the ride names and to add another ride that fits in between the Leisure and current ‘12’ rides. So with effect from Saturday 28th March YOGi … Read more…

Sky Ride Leader Training Opportunity – Training Date 12th April
avatar

Anyone interested in becoming a trained ride leader should take advantage of this opportunity courtesy of British Cycling and Sky.  This is of course aimed at those who intend to then volunteer to lead or co lead official Sky Rides (check the web site from the link below for information).  But we are advertising here as the skills you learn will be invaluable as a leader of club rides.  Those of us who have already received this training recommend it as time wells spent. You will then lead a few Sky rides and pass on the benefit of joining YOGi Cycling to those who enjoy the local Sky rides and looking … Read more…

Saturday “C” Ride – 28th March
avatar

Hi all, This week we go over to the new ride names. The “C” Ride was formally know as the 14 Road Ride. Saturday’s ride looks like there could be a chance of dull weather so probably best to keep off the Moor and stick to the lanes. Usual start point – B&Q car park Plympton at 9:00am. We will make our way out to Ivybridge before turning right and heading towards Ermington. From here we will make our way to California Cross and a chance for those wanting a shorter ride to head home on the A3121 (ride distance … Read more…

Saturday Leisure Ride – 28th March
avatar

Hi all, As you will probably know we go over to our new ride naming this weekend. At the meeting we had in February it was to decided the Leisure Ride should stick with it’s original name as it says exactly what is in the tin. On that note we would ask riders to respect the pace of 10 to 12 mph, ride as a controlled group and look out for each other and of course have fun. :  ) Mike Taylor will be leading the Leisure Ride this week, here is his route: Ivybridge, Ermington, Noss Mayo/Newton Ferrers, Yealmpton … Read more…

Saturday ‘D’ Ride – 28th March
avatar

For the avoidance of doubt, the ‘D’ ride is the artist formerly known as the ’16’ So to make up for last weeks slackness, thought I’d get in a wee bit earlier with this week’s ride. The planned route is to head out through Ivybridge and Ashburton to Bovey before turning towards Mortenhampstead and on to Okehampton. Coffee stop will be at the Railway and then it’s down the track (not literally, the trail next to the track!), hopefully we’ll remember the right place to come off the track and rejoin the A386! Then down to the Lydford turn before … Read more…

Friday Philosophers Ride – Friday 27th March.

Friday Philosophers Ride, Friday 27th March. Route is the same as last weeks, Pork, Merrivale and Princetown with a cafe stop at the Foxtor in Princetown. Depart from the George at 10.00 am. A link to the route is here https://connect.garmin.com/modern/course/9001863 for anyone who hasn’t seen it. In view of the increased popularity of this ride, I  thought it would be helpful to restate the ride objectives, so participants don’t find they have joined a ride that is slightly different in format to the usual club rides. It is intended as a recreational ride, and the route is chosen with … Read more…

Saturday 16 Ride – Sat 21st March
avatar

Sorry, been a bit lazy this week… With some of the guys away we’ll play it by ear tomorrow morning and see what you fancy!! Was thinking of heading up through Ashburton to Bovey, then on to Mortenhampstead and Okehampton. Stop at the railway before picking up the track to the A386 then either straight back to Tavy or through Lydford and Brentor. That’s about 80 miles so happy to adjust or do something different. Let’s see who turns up tomorrow and what you want to do. Good luck to all who are taking on the Lionheart on Sunday…ride with … Read more…

Saturday 12 Road – 21st March

Thanks to Bill Booth for volunteering to lead this week’s 12 Ride (the last 12 Ride before the rides get renamed!!). Bill’s plan is as follows: “I am planning to lead the 12’s on a section of the Gran Fondo route, to grow familiarity for those who have committed to it. Therefore: B&Q, Saltash, Hatt, lanes to Callington, Liskeard, Duloe, down the Looe valley to Looe and then Hessenford and through to Torpoint and back to base. Cafe stop planned for Farmshop Cafe @ Widegates, although we may call into Louis @ Callington if demand is there. The weather is set to … Read more…

Prudential Ride London Team Entry Opportunity – Sunday 2nd August
avatar

Once again as a British Cycling Affiliated club we have been offered the opportunity to enter teams into the Prudential Ride London Event (potentially three teams of 4).   Though I add caution as its possible we will actually be reduced to only one team (even none).  All other affiliated clubs have also been invited to enter teams and a fair allocation is made depending on take up.  This was the approach used last year when indeed we were offered just the one place. The event takes place on Sunday 2nd August and each rider within the team must pay their own … Read more…

Saturday Leisure Ride – 21st March
avatar

Hi All Leisure Riders, Once again it is my pleasure to lead this ride and after such a nice dry week we head on the Nature Watch Route:) which I’m sure its true to say has only been used once before and that was early winter. We are likely to see what seems to be a plague of Pheasants, the odd one or two quite rare Little Egrets, Swans, all sorts of other waterfowl and the hustle and bustle in the trees as birdlife in general prepares for spring and what comes naturally :). As ever I confess there are the usual hills to embrace but the first … Read more…

Well it looks like Spring is finally clicking itself into Gear. The weather that we have experienced so far this week, thankfully looks set to continue into the weekend also. So with this in mind, this week I will be leading the 14’s Ride up onto the Moors and lets hope my Bike plays ball! As an overview – We will set off from HQ at normal time and head up towards Lee Moor via Duez Alps. From here we make our way over Cadover Bridge and travel through Sheepstor to rejoin the Main Road to Princetown (B3212). We then follow the road towards Dartmeet … Read more…
