Saturday 14 Road Ride – 30th August
avatar

There is a tale told by the YOGi elders of a hill climb in a land far, far away, somewhere between here and middle earth, in a place that is known only as Widecombe in the Moor. This hill is said to be as steep as the road from hell and as long as time itself. The question you must ask yourself is ‘Are you ready for it??’ Wow, tripped out for a bit there, Widecombe’s not that bad actually.  The ride will start from our usual meeting point at B&Q car park, Plympton (09:00am). We will head out along the cycle track … Read more…

Saturday 16 Road Ride – 30th August

With dry weather forecast how about a little excursion around Dartmoor? From B&Q we will head up through Deux Alpes, Cadover, Sheepstor and on to Dousland although we may stick in a cheeky Burrator loop depending on the mood of the group.  Feel free to join us at the Burrator Inn around 10 but we’ll be on YOGi time!  From here it’s up Peek Hill and our first visit of the day to Princetown.  No stopping though as we really get stuck in to the meat of the day as it’s out through Two Bridges and on to Dartmeet and a nice cheeky climb! Heading towards Widdecombe … Read more…

Saturday Leisure Ride – 30th August

This week we will head into South East Cornwall, as I’ll readily admit this is my very favourite 30 mile route.  Why?  Well mainly quiet roads, stunning views, arguably one of the best cafe stops around and yes a few challenging climbs that we will take at a nice relax pace. Anyway as we say embrace the hills! For those who may not know what to expect this ride is aimed at the less experienced/fit riders so pace will be around 10 – 12 mph average (it will be at whatever suits the group that ensures we stay together). So route is:- B&Q … Read more…

Steve Sendall has kindly volunteered to lead this week’s ride. He will be aided by his glamorous assistant James D Grozier. Here’s his route: B&Q cycle track to Yelverton, Horrabridge, Whitchurch Down, Tavistock, up the banks and follow the Classic route through Chillaton and on to Lydford for the cafe stop. From Lydford that steady climb up to Brent Tor back down to Tavistock and left up Pork and Merrivale, Foxtor Cafe for a brew and downhill all the way to finish at B&Q. For those who wish for the shorter route back, reverse the route from Tavistock. Whole route … Read more…

Saturday Leisure Ride Cancelled – 23rd August
avatar

Our apologies but on account of it being a Bank Holiday weekend and most of the usual volunteers otherwise committed, we have no one to lead this Saturdays Leisure Ride.  As this ride is generally aimed at the less experienced riders we will always aim to cancel by Thursday evenings, hence allowing would be participants plenty of time to make other plans. A contingency we expect to to be the exception rather than the rule. Clearly this is a decision based solely on safety grounds so we ask for your understanding. Normal service resumes next week when it is my … Read more…

Tour of Britain Time 2014 – REGISTER INTEREST

With August marching on and parents looking longingly at the back to school posters in Tesco’s, the thoughts of every Devon cyclist turn to this year’s Tour of Britain stage in the county.  This year the route takes the peloton from Exmouth to Exeter, not as you might think on a short and blisteringly fast time trial but over 114 miles of beautiful Devon countryside.  While the pro’s will ride this on Thursday the 11th September (and no doubt we’ll organise a club ride out to watch), why not pit yourself against them and ride the route on an organised club ride on 13th … Read more…

As the weather looks promising again thought we could go with another longer ride, 80 miles of fun but with plenty of options to cut it short for anyone who needs to head home early… So from B&Q we head up to the George and on to the moors before turning off towards Bere Alston and tackling ouf first big climb of the day out of Denham Bridge.  From here we’ll head across to Gulworthy and straight across to Chillaton and on to Lewdown.  Following the old A30 we finally come to Launceston, but no Pie-stop this time as we head … Read more…

It’s my turn to lead this ride again. After a break the last time that I led, we’ll be riding the Noss Mayo route again:

Starting at B&Q at 09:00 we’ll head out through Plympton to Ivybridge and then turn right towards Ermington. From Ermington we’ll take the Yealmpton road and then turn left onto the Mothecombe and the coast road toward Noss Mayo.
