Saturday Road Ride Leaders
avatar

In order for our Saturday Road Rides to take place, we need volunteers to lead. If you can lead a ride or two (or even more) that would be fantastic and we would like to hear from you. There is a page of guidance and notes to help ride leaders and new riders here. Our amazing club is run purely by volunteers. If you would like to do your bit, here’s your chance. Thank you! Below is a list of ride dates and leaders, where we have them. If you wish to volunteer please leave a note in the comments section … Read more…

Winter Training – What’s On
avatar

With the winter weather truly upon us and the bed looking more appealing than the bike we thought we’d try and give you some ideas for alternative training to help get 2015 off to a great start. First up is club member David Fletcher at velo-smith.com who is running a weekly group turbo session. Sessions are every Monday starting at 6 p.m. and include a coached turbo session followed by a circuit of core work and stretching. A great all round work-out for all levels of ability and plenty of friendly YOGi faces to, err, encourage you on! Sessions cost … Read more…

Hopefully we won’t get the weather that is currently being forecast but to be on the safe side please check this post in the morning to ensure we run the ride. Ride route (if weather ok) with a few alternative ways depending on weather. B+Q, Plympton, Ivybridge, Wrangaton – and here we will decide upon Dartington/Totnes or Buckfast (if we’re not too wet)

Saturday 16 Road Ride – 31st January
avatar

On the assumption that the weather doesn’t scupper our plans for Saturday we’ll have another go at this route. Also means we come back over the ferry which is nice and handy for dropping in to the velosmith.com and RSF workshop open afternoon for an additional cheeky (and free!) coffee and cake stop! So the plan is to head out to Tavistock, through Jordan Lane and Batteridge, up to Brentor before turning back to Gulworthy. From here we’ll cross the border in to bandit country and tackle the little climb through Gunnislake and on to Callington. Then it’s back in … Read more…

Saturday Leisure Road Ride – 31st January
avatar

Providing the weather behaves itself this Saturday (31st), I plan to take the Leisure riders out to Newton Ferrers/Noss Mayo via Ivybridge and Ermington. Coffee/cake will be at the little cafe tucked away at the junction on the A379 in Yealmpton (not sure if it’s name). Route last time I did this was about 31 or so miles and is a very gentle ride. Saturday 16 Road Ride – 24th January

This week’s ride is geared around those looking to bag the first Strava Gran Fondo of 2015, but with plenty of options for anyone not wanting to do the full distance. So the route is from YOGi HQ we head up Deux Alpes and through Cadover Bridge to Yelverton. Then it’s out through Walkhampton to Horrabridge and up Jordan Lane cutting across to our favourite climbs of Pork and Merrivale. We skirt past Princetown and head through Postbridge and over the moors to Mortenhampstead where we’ll have a quick pit stop a la Co-op. The gentle climb of Doccombe beckons … Read more…

Saturday Leisure Ride – 24th January
avatar

As it looks like we will see some cold, dry (but refreshing) wintry sunshine and blue sky seems a good day to head to the coast and SE Cornwall. In my view the very best 30 (ish!) mile route there is around our beautiful area. Capped by being able to enjoy coffee and generous sized homemade cakes at the lovely Cliff View Café. This ride is on mainly very quiet country lanes and though some short sharp hills these will be taken at a very gentle and yes enjoyable pace!!  Well lets face it reaching the top of any climb always brings on that feeling of satisfaction eh. … Read more…

Today’s Road Rides Cancelled – 17th January
avatar

Hi all, As you know we have a duty of care to our members, ride leaders and the general public and it is clear that the weather conditions this morning present a real risk .  I have had reports from members of black ice and it is certainly that here in North Plymouth. We do not cancel rides without a lot of regret but it really does make sense, however anyone who is prepared to take a personal risk could always turn up at Coypool this morning and join any like minded members on a non sanctioned YOGi ride. Maybe … Read more…
