Rides Schedule – Week Commencing 20th May
avatar

Hi everyone, here is the confirmation of the weeks rides.

To any non members reading this, you are very welcome to try two of our rides, ideally you ‘like’ and you ’join’.  That way the club is suitably insured!  Please be aware that we will be checking pre ride.   Fair enough eh!

To join please pay the £10.00 membership fee using PayPal (you do not need a PayPal account to do so) and complete the membership application form, accessed via the ‘Home page’.  You will receive a formal welcome and your membership number (generally!) within one week of paying and completing your application.

If you are visiting the area let us make you welcome and show you some great riding.

We expect all those who join our rides to check out our guide to group riding (see elsewhere on this ‘News Page’) and the ‘Rides Ethos’ at the bottom of this article. Both aim to ensure everyone’s enjoyment and safety! Read more…

Saturday 12 Road Ride – 25th May
avatar

Well as I said in my note if we don’t post the ride by Thurs eve it means we have no volunteer and that is the case on this Bank Hol weekend!

So please turn up and mutually agree a route and everyone do their part in ensuring a safe and enjoyable day on the bike. Of course key is to ensure you ride to the guidelines in our ‘Rides Ethos’ and maybe take another look at our guide to group riding, giving hand/verbal signals and passing them up/down the line. Saturday 16 Road Ride – 25th May
avatar

This weeks ride has been planned with the sportive rider in mind. The pace will be brisk and the distance is 103 miles. The route is the same one that Graham led over the Easter Weekend.

From our usual starting place and time (B&Q coypool @ 0900) we head for Princetown via Yelverton, then onto Moretonhampstead and then onto Exeter. From Exeter we head to Dawlish Warren, then Teignmouth, then onto Ashburton where we stop at the Dartmoor Lodge Hotel for our Café stop. It’s then home via South Brent and Ivybridge. The Café stop is later on in the ride this week but there will be the oppotunity for a ‘food station’ stop in Exeter. Read more…

Volunteer for 2013-2014 Rolling Committee Member
avatar

AGM time is coming up fast and so time to ask for any volunteers to come forward for a place on the committee for the rolling 12 month period we introduced last year.

There is only one real quality needed: An enthusiastic approach that’s it! Well okay you will also need to be willing to do some work and want to make a difference and going by the oft’ energetic contributions to events, web site post ‘comments’ and the Members Forum there are plenty of you out there. And with very nearly 500 members (almost certain to top that by the end of our third year as a formal club) we will need that fresh impetus to help us continue to develop the club and help ensure we meet the needs of our ever growing numbers. There must be loads of good stuff we can do that as yet we have not thought of/been able to resource, so come on and help us get stuck in. Read more…

Women’s Representative
avatar

As most of you are aware I have been the Women’s Rep for the club. However, I am no longer able to continue due to working shifts, which means I am not available for many weekend’s now. This means there is an exciting opportunity for a YOGi gal to take on this role. -) The aim of a Women’s Rep is a simple one really. It is for you to support the ladies of our club. There is scope for you to develop this role as much as you would like to. The minimum requirement is to continue to offer … Read more…

This weeks ride will once again be led by John Ambrose who has provided a good spring trip to Dartmouth. Route is:- Ivybridge, Ermington, Modbury and Gara Bridge. At Dartmouth, for a change we will descend past the Naval College, ride through the town and climb out the back way (an easier climb than the one past the college but long enough to be a workout) to rejoin the usual route to the cafe stop at Blackpool Sands. After the cafe stop it’s along Slapton Sands and, as an alternative, we turn right at Stokenham with a nice section to East Allington. From … Read more…

Saturday 16 Road Ride – 18th May
avatar

This weeks 16 will be a “bridging ride” and will be at relatively easy pace. I don’t know what the average will be, but the ride will be at pace suitable for those who are close to riding with the 16′s, but who have not wanted to take on the difficulty of recent 16 rides. I will follow the pace set by the riders who come along and we can all be aware of the front and back of the group. Should be fine! From our usual starting place B&Q 9am, we make our way over to the Tamar bridge … Read more…

We head out to Ashburton, up Pear Tree, then cut across the moors to Moretonhamstead. From here it is along the valley to Bovey Tracy. We then follow the Dartmoor Classic route up to Manaton, over Holne/Hexworthy, on to Princetown and then home. There are several points to ride home early if anyone wishes. Pace will be such that we keep something in the legs to get over Holne late on in the ride! Approx … Read more…
