Saturday D (and optionally C) Ride – 30th April

Well the rides are looking a bit thin on the ground this weekend so I’ll happily lead a D ride at a steady pace and if no-one comes forward to lead a C ride you’re welcome to join us and we’ll ride at a pace suitable for whoever turns up. 🙂 Please note this ride will leave at the usual D Ride start time of  08:30  As it’s a bank holiday I was thinking of a the scenic route to South East Cornwall, so we’ll head to Yelverton, Horrabridge, Whitchurch Common, Batteridge, Brentor, Gulworthy, Gunnislake, Callington, Tideford, St. Germans, Crafthole, Freathy (cafe … Read more…

Saturday D Road Ride – 12th March

Thanks to Mike Smith for leading again this week, his plan is as follows: Leaving B&Q at 08:30 we head out through Cornwood to Yelverton and Princetown.  Then it’s on to Morty, Bovey and the climb through Manaton to Haytor.  From here we’ll drop down to Ashburton and over to the Totnes and home.  Cafe stop will be decided on the day but likely to be the Curator in Totnes so come prepared. As a couple of us have been off the bike for a while it’s likely there will be a slightly shorter (and slower?) option cutting up through Belliver … Read more…

Saturday D Road Ride – 6th Feb

Adrian is planning to lead this week but having checked the forecast for Saturday we’re holding off posting a route for the D ride, looks a complete shocker at the mo. We’ll post an update by Friday evening at the latest so please check back here to see what’s planned. Thanks 🙂

Saturday D Road Ride – 30th Jan

Thanks to Mike Smith for volunteering to lead the D ride this week, here’s his cunning plan: Plan A is a Doccombe Loop taking advantage of the prevailing wind pushing us across the moor. Coffee stop in Buckfastleigh or Totnes depending on how we’re doing. Given the forecast and the need to always have a Plan B, here’s that too: If raining hard, stay low and go from B&Q up to Buckfastleigh, Ashburton and up the Teign Valley to Morty with a loop back to Newton Abbot and on to Totnes. Either option sounds good to me! Plan is as … Read more…

Saturday D Road Ride – 22nd Jan

There will be a D ride for this weekend! Leaving b&q at 8:30 we’ll probably do some variation of a Tavy-Launceston loop 😀 Thinking of heading out through Duex Alpes to Yelverton, cutting across Jordan Lane and Batteridge to the A386 and up to Sourton Cross.  From there the full length of the old A30 to Launceston and then back through North Petherton, Coad’s Green and Callington. Full route is about 74 miles with about 6500ft of climb but obviously open to suggestions on the day!!  Cafe stop likely to be either the farm shop after Liftondown or Pie Stop. … Read more…

Saturday D Road Ride – 2nd Jan 2016

Thanks to all the hardy D riders for an awesome year of riding in 2015, I’ve loved almost every one of them!   And here to kick 2016 off in cracking style is our first ride of the New Year, led by the one and only Mike Smith… Mike’s got a stonking 85-miler planned to get us going but I’m sure some of the crew will be up for getting the first ton ride of the year in early!  Here’s the route: Heading out through Deux-Alpes on to Tavistock – Chillaton – Lifton – Holsworthy – Sourton Cross back to Tavy … Read more…

Saturday D Christmas Ride – 19th Dec

The plan for this week is for a ride that returns to P-town via the White Thorne in Shaugh Prior to meet up with the other rides for Christmas beer and cheer! 😀 So having seen a lot of the South Hams over recent weeks I thought we could head across to Cornwall via the ferry, out through Hessenford to Looe, up to Dobwalls and Minions then back via Gunnsilake, Tavistock & Shaugh Prior.  Suggested route is here!  Looks like another wet and wild one so as ever quite happy to change it around on the day according to the consensus. (Not at all making … Read more…

Saturday D Road Ride – 12th Dec – Pace or Base?

You choose, both on offer…maybe! James has volunteered to lead again this week and he’s planning on taking us on a Slapton loop but in reverse, with a coffee stop at the usual in Totnes!!  (The Curator – great coffee and food but I’m beginning to think someone’s on commission!) 🙂 Thanks James, looks a great route and it can be found here! Some of us will be riding a strict base ride (although please note this may not be a true base ride for all!) Others may want to ride with a bit of intensity and dare I say conviction, so if … Read more…

Saturday D Road Ride – 5th Dec

The intention this week is to ride base winter miles with the minor caveat being that base does vary so it may not be base for everyone!  (Note base rides are usually ridden at a pace to keep in zone 2, which means going uphill can be very slow). It’s possible some of the D ride guys may still want to ride a pace ride, that’s cool too so we’ll see who turns up and what they want to do on the day.  For both options the rides will leave B&Q at 08:30 but if you do want to do a … Read more…

Saturday D Road Ride – 21st November

Thanks to Adrian for volunteering to lead this week’s D ride… Well its looking a tad drier this week but a fresh northerly wind is forecast to hamper our progress. So the plan is to hug the leeward side of the moor through the lanes all the way out to Bovey Tracey. Then we’ll amble up Haytor and once we reach the top we’ll feel how strong the wind really is. Then its straight back off the moor down into Ashburton, Buckfastleigh then into Totnes for coffee. Home via Avonwick. We’ll go for an 8.30 start and here’s the route. … Read more…

Saturday D Road Ride – 14th Nov

Thanks to Mike Smith for offering to lead again this week, it looks like it will be another wet and windy one so as ever the plan may change on the day…definitely a day for winter bikes Heading off from B&Q at 08:30 it’s out to Tavistock, Chillaton, Lifton, Roadford Lake and on to Holsworthy before turning back to Sourton Cross and  back to P-town.  Route is around 80 miles and there may be a bit of team navigation involved! Given the forecast check back here first thing Saturday for any updates! Hopefully see you there for more fun(?) on the bike! … Read more…

Saturday D Road Ride – 24th October…Bring Your Climbing Legs!

Once again, thanks to Mike Smith for leading this week’s D ride…. Plan is to meet at B&Q at 8 where we head straight out to Ashburton and up Poundsgate for a bit of early lactate pain. He glosses over the next bit with a simple “head on through to Tavy’ so that will be across the renowned pan flat Dartmoor then Mike? 😉 After a pit stop in Tavy it’s on to Gunnislake, and up the last big climb of the day. Then Callington calls and the main road and a bit of a blast home to P-town. Good … Read more…

Saturday D Road Ride – 17th October

*** UPDATE – WE WILL MEET AT B&Q at 8 a.m. AS NORMAL*** And now for something completely different, well slightly different anyway… The machine that is Mike Smith is responsible for this week’s excitement Firstly note that this weeks D ride will meet at the Torpoint Ferry (Plymouth side) at our usual time of 8 a.m. Mikes plan is to pace line the Trerulefoot TT route ‘with conviction’! Then back across the ferry and a group ride out to Totnes with some through and off where conditions allow. Hopefully the weather will hold out long enough for one more … Read more…

Saturday D Road Ride – 26th September

Mike Smith has volunteered to lead the D ride this week, and here’s what he’s got in store… Leaving B&Q at 8 we’ll head out through Roborough, Tavistock, Chillaton, Lifton and on to Launceston. No stopping for pies as we head the lumpy route over (and up!) to Minions. Then it’s a quick blast up the Draynes Valley to Jamaica Inn and back down the other side to Dobwalls and on to Looe for coffee and sustenance. After Looe we head for home on the direct route where we’ll see who hasn’t been pulling their weight on the rest of … Read more…
