Basic Fixes and Safety Checks Evening – ELM Centre, Estover Friday 3rd June

Hi All, Ian, John Allan and yours truly are running another one of our popular basic fixes evening.  This is for our members who dread the road/off road puncture and/or are not sure how to ensure their bike is in tune. This will be held on Friday 3rd June 6:30 – 8:30 at the ELM Centre, Nr Asda Estover. As well as practising an inner tube change (a number of times!) you will also learn how to complete the ‘M’ check (we will demo this). How to tune up gears, brakes (sorry not Hydro’s on this occasion), headset adjustment etc. All we … Read more…

Saturday ‘C’ Road Ride – 14th May

It seems ages ago since I led a ‘C’ ride (that’s cos it was!), so be aware I might be leading from the rear :). Whatever we will be heading up to the moor and to ensure a nice easy warm up we will start with an amble up the Plym Valley.  Here take the opportunity to ‘Tree Peep’ and enjoy the lush translucent green leaves before the insects and fungi start their feasting and spoil the pristine look :).  Yep that also means those who want an easy(ier) life can meet us at Yelverton for a 10 am depart. Actual route will be:- Plym Valley Cycle … Read more…

Group Road Riding Training – Dates TBC

Hi Everyone, Following all sorts of useful discussions at our April members evening we agreed a few actions. This is a communication about one of them! Others to follow…………. Firstly we are a popular club with a membership level that makes us one of the bigger UK clubs, something we are rightly proud of, but we are very conspicuous around the area. That means after the most important consideration of safety we must be seen by all other road users and as individuals by each other in the best possible light. Yes we have had the occasional incident that has … Read more…

Leisure Ride – Saturday 9th April

Hi All, It’s my pleasure to lead this week and as this group stayed in Devon last time out we we will head to Cornwall, generally a favourite short ride of many of us. A ‘Heads Up’ (or a reminder to some) it is hilly but they will all be ridden at a pace that makes them all fun and anyway the ups always rewarded by the downs. Route is:- Cattedown – Barbican – West Hoe – Millbay – Torpoint Ferry – St John – Millbrook – Maker – Cawsand – Whitsand Bay (cafe stop at the Cliff Top Cafe) – Tregantle – Anthony – … Read more…

Update – Prudential Ride London-Surrey 100 Update

Hi All, Now Just an update on the original message now the official entry has passed message below! As we sort of expected based on how we already seem to have number of members who successfully passed the individual ballot stage and that logistically it is a more challenging event than most sportives, we have had a small response to again this year. However I have provisionally entered two ‘All Male’ teams and one mixed team.  This was on the basis that ratio most fairly represents our membership.  Once I receive confirmation of which if any of the above teams have  been accepted I will … Read more…

Plymouth Half Marathon Sweep Cyclists Volunteers Required – Sunday 17th April 2016

Hi All, Mainly through my employers charity work I have volunteered to be one of the Plymouth Half Marathon ‘Sweep Cyclist’s’. Taking it that as this is likely Plymouth’s biggest charity event each year I could easily find another few volunteers from our  YOGi Ranks I volunteered to do so. It is simply a case of doing this:- Sweep Cyclist (4 to 6 Riders Required) – As a Sweep Cyclists you will travel behind the last participant at the back of the race – You will keep in regular radio communication with the ‘event control’ room to update as to the … Read more…

Saturday Leisure Ride – 27th February

Hi All, It’s my pleasure to lead this week’s ride, and about time too, it’s along time since I last did so!  We are also conscious that we have not been able to provide a leader for this ride every week over this long wet winter 🙁 even though it is something we always try to do!  Thankfully though we have had members come forward on most occasions. There is a caveat as there is a minor concern about tomorrows weather, especially on higher ground and so I have held of posting a ride hoping for a more certain forecast, however conditions remain … Read more…

Important Information New Membership Management System

Hi All. Having admittedly being somewhat caught on the hop by British Cycling, who though we asked for a week’s ‘Heads Up’ before going live with our membership management transfer, were so keen they just pressed the button!  Okay so belatedly now here is a little background about why and what.  Of course those with an eye on our committee meeting minutes will already know we were looking at this, okay accepting that info was pretty scant.  Even so an apology that this communication as followed ‘Go Live’ not precluded it! The back ground is that Graham and I started … Read more…

Saturday Road Rides Cancelled – 6th February

Hi All, Once again the weather forecast is suggesting 50 mile an hour winds and very heave rain so common sense has to prevail, so we are cancelling all tomorrows road rides. As ever anyone wanting to take their own decision welcome to drum up riding buddies using ‘Comments’ below, however they will not be official club sanctioned rides and hence not covered by the club insurance. Hopefully everyone will agree a sensible approach, and a chance maybe for someone to organise a Mountain Bike ride for ‘Roadies’?

Saturday Leisure, ‘A’, ‘B’ and ‘C’ Road Rides Cancelled

Hi all, As you know we rarely cancel our road rides and only do so where there is obvious risk due to weather conditions.  Doing this now to allow those who so wish time to arrange other Saturday plans. I have just been around south Dartmoor and then into SE Cornwall (driving sadly!) and every road is pretty much soaking wet with running water coming of fields and moorland.  It was pretty icey in Buckland Monochorum and Yelverton this morning and tonight we have been forecast a much more severe frost.  That suggests far more dangerous roads tomorrow. Of course … Read more…

Saturday ‘A’ Road Ride – 9th January

Well the weather forecasters suggest we will see a slight improvement on the last 2 months of what seems like constant grey and wet before we finally see some real winter.  So an ideal day to test those new year resolutions, brave the January squalls, force ourselves to forget the festive Saturday morning lie ins and commence 2016 as we mean to go on 🙂 . Route is:- Plym Valley gently start to Yelverton – Crapstone – Buckland Monochurum – Denham Bridge – Gulworthy – Chip Shop Tavistock (coffee and cake at Bobs East End Café) – Whitchurch – Horrabridge – Yelvertone – Return via the Plym … Read more…

Mix and Match Christmas Road Ride – Saturday 19th December

Hi All, Weather is not looking great tomorrow hence the usual dearth of ride leaders when we have such forecast’s, so festive fun tomorrow starts with a combined A,B and C Ride. A tad complicated but here is the plan. Meet at the White Thorne, Shaugh Prior for a ride start at 09:45, that way those who want to start at YOGi HQ can depart at the usual 09:00 and meet us at the White Thorne.  Meanwhile those who prefer to sit and eat/drink with a dry butt can leave a change of clothes either in their car or in bag inside the … Read more…

Saturday Leisure Ride – 26th September

Thought it about time I resurrected my Saturday morning riding! And a great way to do so is to take this ride out for Autumn Watch with coffee and cake.  Yes the equinox has been and gone so we are officially into to the third season.  Eek where did the summer go? So route is:- Plym Valley Cycle Path – Yelverton – Crapstone – Milton Coombe – Lopwell Damn (Autumn Watch/Coffee/Cake here!) Tamerton Foliot – Loosleigh Lane – Home. This is a 25 mile ride but a tad lumpy (well where isn’t around our neck of the woods) but all … Read more…
