Tour of Britain comes to Devon again!

Date for the diary 20th September

The Tour of Britain route for 2013 was announced yesterday and Devon is getting another great stage, possibly the defining stage of the race. Most of the action will be happening in East Devon but the finish will be on Hay Tor and will be a the first summit finish for the race. Date is the 20th September and there is always plenty of us riding up to see the race.

On a similar note the Tour Series will be at Torquay on the evening of the 28th May. This is a great chance to seem some circuit racing and possibly a better spectacle than the Tour of Britain with the riders lapping the circuit every couple of minutes. If the weather’s good its a great evening out. Read more…

Soggy Bottom 2

We had a good turnout of MTB members at the Soggy Bottom event held at Newnham park on Sunday, although numbers were down in general because the date had been moved due to bad weather two weekends ago. We all had great fun though and the weather was actually pretty warm and sunny (for January!).

Lucy Allan gets a mention in the Evening Herald report on the Soggy in todays paper (Wednesday 30th)

SW XC Youth Team at Hadleigh Park

A team of SW Riders have set off for Hadleigh Park this weekend, including Lucy Allan from Yogi, a regular club member on the Fun Rides. Lucy is racing as Team Fully Sussed/Certini as part of the SW Team taking part in the Inter Regionals at Hadleigh Farm, Essex.  More details here on XCRACER

If anyone has teenagers that are thinking of coming along to events, then now is a great time.  British Cycling are putting a fair amount of time and effort into the regional MTB Cross Country scene to develop potential under 16 riders.

In addition to our Fun Rides on the 1st and 3rd saturdays of each Month which are purely recreational but excellent for bulding skills, there are two Soggy Bottoms Cross Country races this winter, and as they are right on our doorstep they are a great event to get started for adults and teens alike.  Entries for the Soggy Bottoms are cheaper if you enter before 11th October.  You can find out more here including a Video of the last course http://www.xcracer.com/soggy-bottom-10years.html

Teenagers are very welcome on all the MTB Rides, but as always please ensure you attend a Fun Ride first before riding with any of the faster weekly rides.  It’s probably best to get to get in touch wiht John Allan first though using the contact details in the weekly rides.
