With Saturday looking a brilliant day to get out, the century ride is on but there are plenty of options for anyone not up for the full distance.
The route will take us from HQ out through Deux Alpes to Lee Moor, Cadover and Yelverton. So there is an option to meet us here at 08:45! Then its onward to Princetown and Postbridge. (First shorter option here – Belliver Forest and back through Dartmeet). Then across the moors to Mortenhampstead BEWARE OF THE CATTLE GRID. (Second shorter option – Bovey Tracey and back through Ashburton). Tackling the lovely climb at Doccombe it’s down through Steps Bridge and on to Longdown. (Third shorter option – down the Teign Valley and back through Chudleigh Knighton and Bovey). For those of us doing the full loop we’re Exeter bound. (To be honest if you get here you might just as well go the full distance!) 🙂
Then following the Exe estuary through Starcross it’s on to Dawlish and Teignmouth where we’ll definitely stop for a well earned coffee and slab of cake! The route home is Newton Abbot and Ashburton and so on back to base!
I hope some will be tempted to join me, a century ride is a big milestone for any rider and I can guarantee you’ll have a great sense of personal pride! Pace will be sensible and we will stop as needed to re-fuel and rest, getting everyone through the distance is the aim!
If it’s your first century.…it can be daunting, but is more do-able than you might think particularly if you’ve already got some 70+ rides in the legs. Get some carbs in on Friday (not the liquid kind!) and an early night. Feeding on the ride is also really important – you should eat before you need to which helps to keep the fuel levels topped up. Always better to do this with real food rather than relying on energy bars and gels – save those for the last drag home if needed! And drink plenty, it will be a warm day and there are plenty of places en route to stop and top up bottles.
Hopefully see some of you there at 8 in the morning!! 😀
