YOGi Coaching

In the middle of 2010 after a huge amount of work by Jez Ralph and Chris Glazier YOGI cycling was awarded Sports Lottery funding to support the development of coaching within the club. Members were asked to apply for one of the five coaching opportunities and in early 2011 Wayne, Jason, Holly, Kim and David started off with the Level 2 certificate in coaching. The plan was for a mix of MTB and Road and Time Trial coaches.

The coaching courses are arranged through British Cycling and the courses we have done have each had a different focus:

Level 2 coaches use a range of environments to deliver cycling activities with the focus on basic and intermediate skills for groups of children or adults. At Level 2, coaches can also use non-technical off-road terrain and outdoor grass or hard surface cycle tracks. As of March 2012 David and Holly have completed the Level 2 certificate and can coach YOGi sessions in Level 2 traffic-free environments.

Level 2 Road and Time Trial enables coaches to deliver and evaluate a series of safe, ethical and effective road and time trial coaching sessions. A Coach at this level can coach groups of up to 20 riders on traffic free environments with the focus on introducing riders to the road and time trial environment and to enable them to progress from basic skills to competition. David and Holly have completed this course. David qualified in early February 2012 and can now coach racing and time-trial techniques to groups of riders in closed circuit environments.

Level 3 Road and Time Trial enables the coaches to support 1:1 coaching for performance and to also coach 1:1 on the public highway. Advanced techniques for racing and time trials can also be coached in groups of children or adults. Holly and David are currently completing this course with David hoping to qualify in June 2012.

After months of hard work, travel to various parts of the country for instruction and practical sessions  the coaches are planning how to bring the benefits of thier training and qualifications through a range of coach led activities during the year. This section of the club site will be updated with news and features as well as information on upcoming coached sessions.
