Great that the Tour of Britain organisers have reinstated the best stage of them all after three year’s absence (okay we are biased!). So hope you have booked a days leave as on Friday 9th September the TOB hits South Devon and time for us to enjoy a ride out to the finish at Haytor. This is also a great opportunity to invite any non local cycling mates to come to the South West and join us for the day.
We will meet at usual YOGI HQ (Coypool) at 9:30 on Friday morning and ride up the Plym Valley to Yelverton (you can meet us there at 10:30). We will then make our way to Haytor via Princetown it’s a long day and meant to be sociable so first coffee stop here – Two Bridges – Postbridge -Widecombe (lunch here!) and then ride up the luvverly Widdecombe climb and on to the side of Haytor hopefully to pick a decent viewing spot and watch the race on the giant TV screen. Race ETA is 3:10pm. So plenty of time to socialise and take in the ambience!
The pace will be around the 12mph av as we are using this as an opportunity to enable all levels of our members to enjoy a social ride out together. We will however split into sensible size groups at Yelverton riding at the same pace, regrouping at Princetown, Postbridge and Widdecombe.
Likely on the way home we will ride in ability groups but we will ensure the slower rides are led and everyone gets home. It will be a long day whatever of course.
From past experience and particularly if the weather is good there will be a few thousand others lining the climb and producing another brilliant atmosphere for the riders. So fingers crossed for a British win (I’m not bored of them yet!) and some sunshine!
