Here is the list of the 15 riders who confirmed their wish to attend the Annual YOGi Velodrome trip on Sunday 15th October.
Sadly this list is not as populated as I had hoped, however we continue as we were to avoid disappointment for those who have agreed to take part;
Justin Stanbrook +1
Peter Cantin +1
Dave Cantin +2
Here are the details of our trip to the Newport Velodrome;
The original plan was for a Coach to collect us from former B&Q Car park at 930am. However, due to low numbers attending I have had to can the Coach hire, as this has allowed us to save £450 and as a result allowed us to keep the per head cost down to £45 rather than £75!!!!!
So the new plan will be with designated drivers, meeting for 1030am at YOGi HQ. I confirm that I can take 3, at push 4 passengers (Not Dave or Pete Cantin though, too tall haha!) Peter Grzelinski is also able to take 4 or 5 passengers. So this leave us needing another 2 or 3 designated drivers ideally. If you can drive, please let me know. The cost of the Bridge crossing will be re-reimbursed by the club for the designated drivers only and we kindly ask that all passengers contribute to the cost of fuel to their applicable driver (£7.50 approx each)
We have a 4 hour session booked from 2 to 6pm with the intention to split in to 2 groups and rotate at regular intervals. While one group is on the track the other group will be watching.
The cost for the trip as above is £45 and includes Velodrome hire, an accredited coach to lead the session and individual bike hire.
For the track session you will need to wear cycle kit. Gloves are mandatory, cycle shoes with LOOK KEO / Exustar Look KEO compatible cleats, and a helmet. The velodrome will provide helmets with bikes but for comfort we suggest you bring your own. Obviously on top of this you will need food and drink and a towel etc, showers are available. There are vending machines in the velodrome and a cafe in the nearby leisure centre but can’t comment on what it offers.
**IMPORTANT – CLEATS** The velodrome bikes are fitted with Look KEO pedals – not Delta’s for those who have been before!! The pedals cannot be removed so you’ll need to fit KEO cleats to your cycling shoes for the day. These can be purchased online or through one our our LBS’s. I suggest the Exustar Look Keo cleat, which is less expensive than the official Look Keo cleat. Used these for many years, including their pedals and are excellent quality.
Groups will be split by experience so please confirm your level of velodrome experience:
Novice – New to velodrome riding (never been before)
Intermediate – (Have been before)
Payment will be on the day please by Cash only, as I have limited time to set up a payment link and send by email. Plus we have a couple non members taking part.
This should be a great day out and an awesome opportunity to experience the thrill of Track Cycling. My bets on Justin Stanbrook falling off 1st!!!!
