Our Fun Ride this week started from Quarry carpark on a VERY wet day. We welcomed Christine, a newcomer to our group and Andy Westcott who normally rides with the roadies along with several of the regular Fun Ride group making 9 (or was it 11) of us in total.
Starting out up the track to the old railway line and along Devonport leat we were soon lovely and warm. We climbed up through the forest and then onwards up to the top of Peek Hill for the view – Ha Ha!! We could only see about 50m in the clouds. Heading down the flowing downhill in a northward direction the clouds suddenly lifted with amazing views across Burrator and over Dartmoor through the clearing mist.
Down in the woods again and looking for that elusive clapper bridge, Christine found a nice (mostly soft) part of Dartmoor to practice her forward somersaults in – hopefully her aches have recovered now? We spent some time weaving around in the woods and generally keeping low because of the weather. Then, eventually decided that it was so wet we may as well cool and clean off – see photo. This seems to be developing into a theme on these rides – it was actually quite warm and I don’t normally agree with my wife on that one!
You will note the additional rider in the photos – some say that he’s been spotted hairing down steep hills at high speed around Dartmoor – All we know is he’s called “The Stig”.
We finished off with a nice meal and a drink at the Burrator Inn and felt a lot drier!
Roll on the next ride! And thanks to everyone for a great turnout in such wet conditions.
