Well Christmas is coming and how many mince pies have we eaten this week then? Here’s a chance to work some of them off for you. How lucky we are hey! 🙂
Alex Warren is going to take the ride this week and he has a new route in store for us which looks really good. 🙂
Route as below:
Meet at the B&Q car park at Coypool at 9am. From there we go to the Tamar Bridge where those wanting a lie in can join us at the car park at the top of Pemros Road at 9.45. Once in Cornwall, pass through Saltash and turn onto the A388 to the roundabout at Hatt.
At the Hatt roundabout turn left through Hatt village and follow the road out of the village. At the bottom of the descent the road turns sharp right. Don’t go straight on which is a farm lane, and watch out for mud on this corner. After about two miles at the top of a climb the road forks left to Pillaton.
Pass through Pillaton. After Pillaton there is a long descent on a narrow road. Fallen leaves and damp conditions can make this slippery at times so take care. At the bottom of the hill the road turns left over the clapper bridge. After about ¼ mile turn right onto the lane marked with a “ford” sign. Pass through the ford and along the narrow lane, eventually joining the A390. Turn left on the A390 for about ¾ mile, before turning off to the right just before St Ive, and follow the road to Pensilva. In Pensilva turn left and proceed to the B3254 Launceston to Liskeard road. Turn left onto this road, then exit right about 100 yards further along on to the road for Darite. You will now be on Bodmin moor. Pass through Crows Nest and Darite to a junction signposted “Minions” and “The Hurlers”. Turn right for Minions. Follow the road to Minions where there are several tea rooms.
On leaving Minions follow the road to Upton Cross. At Upton Cross turn right on to the B3254 and follow this south for a couple of miles and trun left of this road into to Pensilva. Proceed to St Ive and turn left onto the A390. After a couple of hundred yard turn right to St Ive cross, then right again at the crossroads in the village and proceed to Blunts. In Blunts, turn left for Tideford. After Tideford take the B3249 St Germans road, but at the top of the hill go straight on rather than the usual descent in to St Germans. Follow the lanes to Polbathic and at Polbathic turn left and head back to Torpoint.
Distance from Coypool to the Torpoint Ferry is about 48 miles.
So there you go, meet as usual for more fun on the bike!
