Saturday ‘14’ Road Ride – 18th August

Alex Warren will lead the ride this week and his route details are below for you all.

Seaton

Basically, a favourite Yogi ride, with a familiar café stop at the Beach Café at Seaton. To add interest, there’s a new climb round the back of Saltash, with a visit to the waterside village of Forder, and a different route from Pillaton to Blunts, to take in some Cornish lanes (and a hill).

Meet at the B&Q car park at Coypool at 9.00am.  From there we go to the Tamar Bridge where those wanting a lie in can join us at the car park at the top of Pemros Road at 9.45.

Once in Cornwall, we go straight up Saltash Fore street and at the mini roundabout at the top of Fore Street take the second exit for St Stephens road.  Follow St Stephens road for about 1 1/2 miles to St Stephen’s church.  Bear right down the steep hill and at the bottom turn left into Forder. Leaving Forder take the middle road parallel with the creek. The road passes under the railway viaduct and climbs up to Trehan.  At the crossroads at the top of the hill turn left and descend to Burraton.  In Burraton turn left and climb up Fairmead road.   At the mini roundabout at the top turn right and then left at the traffic lights on to the A388 for Hatt.

At the Hatt roundabout turn left through Hatt village and follow the road out of the village.  At the bottom of the descent the road turns sharp right.  Don’t go straight on which is a farm lane, and watch out for mud on this corner.  After about two miles at the top of a climb the road forks left to Pillaton.

In Pillaton turn left just past the Weary Friar and descend to Pillaton Mill. Take care on the bend at the bottom. Cross the river Lynher at Pillaton Bridge and follow the lane round to the right. After Coombe Cottage turn right and ascend the narrow lane to Bearah.  Turn right for Blunts.  In Blunts, turn left for Tideford.  After Tideford take the B3249 to St Germans road.  Go through St Germans to Polbathic.  In Polbathic turn right onto the A374 and after about ¾ of a mile left onto the A387. In Hessenford turn left onto the B3247 down the valley to Seaton and the stop at the Beach café.

After the coffee stop we go along the coast road to Tregantle. At Tregantle we can either go down to Antony and straight back to Torpoint, or those wanting a slightly longer ride can carry on along the coast road to Rame and back through Kingsand, Cawsand Millbrook and St John.

Distance from Coypool to the Torpoint Ferry is about 45 miles.
