Saturday ‘14’ Road Ride – 10th March

This week Alex Warren is taking the Sat 14 for a spin over to Cornwall! 🙂

The cafe stop may be at the Hurlers Halt in Minnions, but it may possibly be a different venue within Minnions as Alex has not decided yet, so this will be a nice surprise for you all..  🙂

The route as below:

Meet at the B&Q car park at Coypool.  From there we go to the Tamar Bridge where those wanting a lie in can join us at the car park at the top of Pemros Road at 9.45.  Once in Cornwall, pass through Saltash and turn onto the A388 to the roundabout at Hatt.

At the Hatt roundabout turn left through Hatt village and follow the road out of the village.  At the bottom of the descent the road turns sharp right.  Don’t go straight on which is a farm lane, and watch out for mud on this corner.  After about two miles at the top of a climb the road forks left to Pillaton.

In Pillaton turn left just past the Weary Friar and descend to Pillaton Mill. Take care on the bend at the bottom. Cross the river Lynher at Pillaton Bridge and follow the lane round to the right. After Coombe Cottage turn right and ascend the narrow lane to Bearah.  Turn right for Blunts.  Pass through Blunts and then turn left for St Ive Cross.  At St Ive Cross turn left on to the A390 (Liskeard Road).  After about 200 metres turn right at the crossroads in St Ive for Pensilva.

In Pensilva turn left and proceed to the B3254 Launceston to Liskeard road.  Turn left onto this road, then exit right about 100 yards further along on to the road for Darite.   You will now be on Bodmin moor.  Pass through Crows Nest and Darite to a junction signposted “Minions” and “The Hurlers”.   Turn right for Minions.  Follow the road to Minions where there are several tea rooms.

On leaving Minions follow the road to Upton Cross.  At Upton Cross  turn right on to the B3254 and follow this south for a couple of miles and turn left off this road into to Pensilva. At Gang carry straight on to return to the A390. Turn left on to the A390 (Callington road) and follow the road to Newbridge, taking care on the descent.  Cross the river at Newbridge and turn right for Amy Tree. There’s a steep climb to Amy Tree.  At Amy Tree turn right and follow the road back to Hatt.  At the Hatt roundabout turn left on to the A388 and return to Saltash.

Distance from Coypool and back is around 50 miles.

Meet at 9am B&Q Coypool. You know the score….for more fun on the bike!
