Saturday 16 Road Ride – 3rd January – Back to Base…

Happy New Year all!

With the New Year comes a slightly different focus for the Saturday 16 rides as we return to some base training. From January we’ll be riding at a lower tempo, the intention being to ride base miles predominantly in zone 2 as far as terrain and the mix of riders will allow! Distances will be shorter at 50-60 miles, the pace will ease off and the cafe stops will be towards the end of the ride if possible. If you’ve been thinking of stepping up to the 16 ride this would be a good opportunity to come and join the party!

Route for this week will be a back to front Launceston loop, so it’s across the Tamar (bridge around 9:40) Hatt, Callington through South Petherwin to Launceston picking up the old A30 to Lifton and back through Chillaton to Tavistock. Cafe stop at Bob’s before the Whitchurch route back to P-town. Overall distance is around 58 miles although normal 16 rules apply to the route and if the group decides to do slightly more or less than than that, happy days!! 😀

Big congratulations to James Cox and Micky Paisey, both regular ’16’ riders, on completing the Strava Festive 500 Challenge! While some of us have been tucking into the mince pies and enhancing our ‘Winter plumage’ they have been out on the road to ride 500km in the 8 days between Christmas Eve and New Years Eve! Brilliant achievement, well done guys!!
