Well, inspired by Steve Sendall’s 100 ride route and having resisted his suggestion that we play the hounds to their rabbit in a 100 mile game of chase, I thought we’d have a little jolly around Torbay! What with all the rides heading that way who knows what riff raft we’ll run into! 🙂
So our planned route is out through Ivybridge and South Brent to Buckfastleigh and Ashburton. Then it’s out through Bickington before we try a new route that takes us across to Kingsteignton and on towards Teignmouth. No stopping at the beach though as we turn right and head across the bridge to Shaldon and what looks like a great climb up to the coast road and on through Maidencombe and Babbacombe to Torquay. Still no stopping at the beach as we ride through Paignton and Goodrington, skirt around Brixham and drop down to Kingswear to catch the ferry across to Dartmouth (remember to bring 50p for the ferry!). Another good climb awaits as we escape Dartmouth and head for Morleigh, Gara, California Cross and homeward bound! Suggested route can be found here.
If we can hold on til Dartmouth for the stop that’s around 54 miles in so come prepared. Obviously normal 16 rules apply and if we want to stop earlier then no worries. It could be breezy (and a headwind) on the way back so if we want to cut it short the obvious change is to head through Paignton straight to Totnes and home that way.
Pace will be steady and according to the riders who are out. For those living in Ivybridge who we might not have seen for a few weeks, this route is for you! Lay in and an early finish, winner! 😉
Hope to see you there
