This week’s ride is geared around those looking to bag the first Strava Gran Fondo of 2015, but with plenty of options for anyone not wanting to do the full distance.
So the route is from YOGi HQ we head up Deux Alpes and through Cadover Bridge to Yelverton. Then it’s out through Walkhampton to Horrabridge and up Jordan Lane cutting across to our favourite climbs of Pork and Merrivale. We skirt past Princetown and head through Postbridge and over the moors to Mortenhampstead where we’ll have a quick pit stop a la Co-op. The gentle climb of Doccombe beckons before we drop down through Steps Bridge and on to Longdown and Exeter Quay. After that we skirt around the Exe Estuary through Starcross and on to Dawlish and Teignmouth. Finally it’s homeward bound via Newton Abbot, Ashburton and the usual route back to base.
Distance should be around 100 but we might need to add a little more to reach the magic number, although the 150km for the Fondo will already have been bagged! For those not wanting to ride the full distance there are plenty of options to cut it short, the obvious ones being at Mortenhampstaed and back to Bovey or after Doccombe and down through the Teign Valley.
Proposed route can be found here.
Pace obviously won’t be base 😉 but as it’s been a while since many of us have got close to this distance we’ll keep it steady. Pit stops will be taken as needed and cafe stops by consensus in the usual 16 style.
It’s likely to be a reasonably long day in the saddle so be prepared!! 🙂
