You will see from the last committee meeting minutes that the club are helping St Lukes Hospice to set up a new charity event, a night sportive on the Rame peninsula. This event is still at the planning stage and has been provisionally pencilled in for the night of 5th of July, the Tour De France depart weekend. One of the areas we have helped with is the design of the routes, a 55km and 100km (just under), we will be test riding the longer route this coming Sunday as an additional club led ride for anyone who wishes to come along. Most of you will have ridden at least part of the route so the majority of the roads should not be a surprise to you, please note this ride will be ridden at a 14 average pace, so plan on being out for up to 6hrs with stops.
The route starts at the top of Torpoint adjacent to the community college there but for this weekends ride we will meet and leave from the Torpoint ferry car park (Torpoint side!) at 09:30am. We will be stopping at the Seaton café for refreshments and may also take an earlier stop dependent on time and how it is going. The route follows the road around Kingsand, up onto the cliff road past Freathy, Tregantle and along to Crafthole, before heading down on to the main road towards Trerulefoot. From here we will head west onto the main Looe Road, joining it at the top of the descent to Hessenford, sticking to the main road we head towards Looe but take a right towards Liskeard and drop into the valley. After this drop we take an anti clockwise loop that brings us down the Polperro road into Looe itself. From Looe we follow the valley up until we meet the junction we joined the valley earlier. From here it’s a reverse of the route to Hessenford and then to Seaton for the café stop. The return from Seaton is via Downderry and along the cliff road to Tregantle and then down to Anthony before the main road into Torpoint. Total distance is 96Km with 1858 mtrs of climbing (roughly 60 miles and 6,000ft).
The ride will be jointly led by Jez Ralph and myself. The full route can be found by clicking here
Long range forecast for next Sunday looks …… breezy!! with a few showers 😉
