MTB Fun Ride – Sat 17th Sep 2011

This Saturdays Fun Ride saw a fantastic turnout of riders for the 3rd Saturday of the Month ride, especially considering the ominous forecast and looming dark clouds as we drove out from Plymouth towards Dartmoor. Meeting at Roborough Rock, it was also good to see a few more youngsters along – I think Jane and Lucy had been recruiting friends so they have some younger company. We had 14 in all, making a fairly large group, and the best turnout for one of our new 3rd Saturday rides so far. James and Alex had been told to go to the Yelverton Rock, … Read more…

MTB Adventure Ride – Thursday 21st July 2011 (Words)

I’ll keep this short and sweet as we opted to do the same ride as last weeks MTB fun ride! 14 intrepid riders met at the usual point at Yelverton. As I was running late I took the opportunity to do the same ride as Saturday because only one other rider took part. Role call: Windy, Paul Minns, Paul Cant, Chris, Matt, Steve, Colin, Morgan, Tim, Hannah, Dave, Alex, James, Rob and Bracken the dog. The dwarf run!!!! What a ride , this route has to be the longest single track around, its full of fast decent and technical climbs. the ground … Read more…

MTB Fun Ride – Saturday 16th July 2011 (Words)

Since I started riding a Mountain Bike and (joined Yogi) last November, I’ve been out almost every week except for holidays and once when I was late and left behind!  I’ve only ever started in the rain once, and that was last Saturday’s Fun Ride.  The discussion  in the car went along the lines of: “If no one else turns up I’m going home!….  – Oh b****r* lots of people!”, so we just had to go now. It was pretty damp to start with, but once we were on the flowing tracks on our way from Roborough Rock to Double waters, it … Read more…

MTB Adventure Ride – Thursday 14th July 2011 (Words)

Sometimes the Thursday evening rides, although always a bit of an adventure, can also be fantastically beautiful – as it was a couple of weeks ago. After the hill climb to the top of the moors around Nuns Cross, we were soon admiring views across to Plymouth and over into Cornwall, and then later the scene shown here on the way back as the sun set into darkness.

MTB Adventure Ride – Saturday 2nd July 2011 (Words)

Well “MTB Adventure Ride” was certainly the right name for it- as an adventure was what it was from start to finish!  It Started in Quarry Tor car park near Burrator with Steve relating various exciting tales about their trip to Morzine.  We also welcomed two new riders Jo and Ronnie, and heard that Hannah would not be joining us as Bracken was being electrocuted!!! (Something to do with not chasing sheep). On the ride was Steve (leading it), Tom, John, Liz, Jo, Ronnie, Justin and myself (Penny).  It was a glorious sunny day as we left the car park, and … Read more…
