Getting ready for Winter – Soggy Bottoms and Stingers
The longest day has been and gone, so it’s time to get ready for winter!
Plymouth’s XC scene will be busy again this winter with 2 doses of The Stinger Duathlon and 3 rounds of the Soggy Bottom Series at Newnham Park.
We’ve moved the Soggy Series back a little, to avoid clashing with the cyclocross season. All three Soggy Bottom rounds will take place in early 2015.
Soggy Series Dates
Round 1: 11th January 2015
Round 2: 8th February 2015
Round 3: 8th March 2015 Read more…

It would be great to see a good turnout of YOGI riders at these local events, and nice to see us back to a series of 3 Soggies to keep us going over the winter months. Also there are two Stingers for those that can cycle and run – or have someone they know that can do the running part! These are the confirmed dates for this winter’s Soggy and Stingers. Soggy 1 – 3rd November 2013 Soggy 2 – 15th December 2013 Soggy 3 – 12th January 2014 Stinger 1 – 16th … Read more…
SW XC Youth Team at Hadleigh Park
A team of SW Riders have set off for Hadleigh Park this weekend, including Lucy Allan from Yogi, a regular club member on the Fun Rides. Lucy is racing as Team Fully Sussed/Certini as part of the SW Team taking part in the Inter Regionals at Hadleigh Farm, Essex. More details here on XCRACER
If anyone has teenagers that are thinking of coming along to events, then now is a great time. British Cycling are putting a fair amount of time and effort into the regional MTB Cross Country scene to develop potential under 16 riders.
In addition to our Fun Rides on the 1st and 3rd saturdays of each Month which are purely recreational but excellent for bulding skills, there are two Soggy Bottoms Cross Country races this winter, and as they are right on our doorstep they are a great event to get started for adults and teens alike. Entries for the Soggy Bottoms are cheaper if you enter before 11th October. You can find out more here including a Video of the last course http://www.xcracer.com/soggy-bottom-10years.html
Teenagers are very welcome on all the MTB Rides, but as always please ensure you attend a Fun Ride first before riding with any of the faster weekly rides. It’s probably best to get to get in touch wiht John Allan first though using the contact details in the weekly rides.

Kielder 100 – 2011
Report by Ben Causon After a successful 2010 Kielder 100 ride, Andy Powell and Dave Elliot inspired 3 more Yogi’s (Gary Bees, Andy Pearse & Ben Causon) plus soon to be Yogi Nigel Hook to join them in 2011. After months of training, following separate training plans, Team Yogi were in good shape for the event, including Andy Powell who had struggled since a bad fall in June in the French Alps. We arrived at the camp-site mid afternoon on Friday and promptly set about making camp in the only area of field not already occupied. After much deliberation we … Read more…
