Saturday 16 Road Ride – 21st March

Sorry, been a bit lazy this week… 😮 With some of the guys away we’ll play it by ear tomorrow morning and see what you fancy!! Was thinking of heading up through Ashburton to Bovey, then on to Mortenhampstead and Okehampton. Stop at the railway before picking up the track to the A386 then either straight back to Tavy or through Lydford and Brentor. That’s about 80 miles so happy to adjust or do something different. Let’s see who turns up tomorrow and what you want to do. Good luck to all who are taking on the Lionheart on Sunday…ride … Read more…

Saturday 16 Road Ride – 14th March – STEADY PACE!!

This week the Saturday 16 ride will intentionally be run at a slightly steadier pace than normal, we’re aiming for somewhere around 15-16mph but will adjust pace according to those who ride. We hope that some of the usual suspects who have been off for a little while will be back to join us…you know who you are!! 🙂 If you’ve been thinking about making the jump to the 16 ride this week could be an ideal time to step up and join us. You’ll find the same friendly welcome you’d expect on any YOGi ride and a great little … Read more…

Saturday 16 Road Ride – 7th March

This week’s 16 ride has been designed with a fully integrated lightweight option for those of us who might need to save ourselves for the velodrome on Sunday (err, that’ll be me then…did I mention still a few places available!! 😉 ) So the suggested route sees us head to Buckfast by the standard route before skirting around the Abbey and cutting up on to the moors through Holne. Then it’s across through Vennford and back towards Two Bridges and Princetown. The lightweight(s) will head for home from here, probably after a cheeky coffee in Foxtor of course! The hardcore … Read more…

Saturday 16 Road Ride – 28th February

This week’s 16 ride will be led by our very own Adrian (The Jensie) Longman 🙂 In Adrian’s words: The weather is looking somewhat iffy so I’ve kept the route simple and adaptable. So its straight accross the moor with hopefully a helpful tailwind, through Moretonhampstead and up Doccombe, along the Teign valley and the usual route home. The full route is 73 miles. Hopefully the day will be a little brighter than the forecast is suggesting at the moment. 🙂 The route can be found here A great route and thanks to Adrian for leading. Normal 16 rules apply – … Read more…

Saturday 16 Road Ride – 21st February

Well, inspired by Steve Sendall’s 100 ride route and having resisted his suggestion that we play the hounds to their rabbit in a 100 mile game of chase, I thought we’d have a little jolly around Torbay! What with all the rides heading that way who knows what riff raft we’ll run into! 🙂 So our planned route is out through Ivybridge and South Brent to Buckfastleigh and Ashburton. Then it’s out through Bickington before we try a new route that takes us across to Kingsteignton and on towards Teignmouth. No stopping at the beach though as we turn right … Read more…

Saturday 16 Road Ride – 14th February

Launceston Love In Actually by the time we get to Launceston I expect we’ll be broken and battered so more of a sit in than a love in and have you seen the usual 16 culprits anyway…enough said! And that’s where the references to Valentines Day stop! 🙂 So to keep Adrian happy (he wants to see the moor) and me happy (I don’t fancy a headwind on the way home) the plan should we stick to it, is to head out through Deux Alpes, Meavy and Dousland and up Peek Hill to Princetown. From here we’ll do Merrivale and … Read more…

Saturday 16 Road Ride – 7th February

Hi Everyone, This week’s Saturday 16 ride will be led by Greg Learoyd and Adrian Longman, thanks guys! As they are both just coming back from a period of illness the pace will be eased and kept steady and all riders will be expected to respect this. If you’ve been thinking about stepping up for a while this could be a good opportunity to do so, you’ll be made very welcome and well looked after by Greg and Adrian. 🙂 The route they have planned is a loop out to Teignmouth for a cafe stop via Ashburton and Chudleigh. Saturday 16 Road Ride – 31st January * Cancelled*

On the assumption that the weather doesn’t scupper our plans for Saturday we’ll have another go at this route. Also means we come back over the ferry which is nice and handy for dropping in to the velosmith.com and RSF workshop open afternoon for an additional cheeky (and free!) coffee and cake stop! So the plan is to head out to Tavistock, through Jordan Lane and Batteridge, up to Brentor before turning back to Gulworthy. From here we’ll cross the border in to bandit country and tackle the little climb through Gunnislake and on to Callington. Then it’s back in … Read more…

Saturday 16 Road Ride – 24th January

This week’s ride is geared around those looking to bag the first Strava Gran Fondo of 2015, but with plenty of options for anyone not wanting to do the full distance. So the route is from YOGi HQ we head up Deux Alpes and through Cadover Bridge to Yelverton. Then it’s out through Walkhampton to Horrabridge and up Jordan Lane cutting across to our favourite climbs of Pork and Merrivale. We skirt past Princetown and head through Postbridge and over the moors to Mortenhampstead where we’ll have a quick pit stop a la Co-op. The gentle climb of Doccombe beckons … Read more…

Saturday 16 Road Ride – 17th January – **UPDATED**

**LATEST** FAB – 16 Ride leaves B&Q at 11:00 meeting up with the Ivybridge chapter at 11:30. Hope to see some of you there. Definitely the right decision to cancel rides this morning, we’re already getting reports of riders coming off on black ice. That said, the usual 16 crew want to try for a ride later. So on that basis we’ll check conditions at 10 and if considered safe to do so we’ll meet at B&Q at 11 for a STEADY run out to Totnes, sticking to the main roads as much as possible. If it’s ok we may … Read more…

Saturday 16 Road Ride – 10th January

Well definitely looking a bit iffy for tomorrow so a suitably vague plan to go with it and we’ll decide on the day depending how right or wrong the forecast is! Vague plan is to head up through Deux Alpes and on to Yelverton where we’ll make a further decision on the route. But we’ll try to keep the wind behind us as much as possible, maybe head to Princetown and across the moors before turning back to the shelter of the lanes in the South Hams (welcome to Simon’s World!) and back the valley road. The intention is jus … Read more…

Saturday 16 Road Ride – 3rd January – Back to Base…

Happy New Year all! With the New Year comes a slightly different focus for the Saturday 16 rides as we return to some base training. From January we’ll be riding at a lower tempo, the intention being to ride base miles predominantly in zone 2 as far as terrain and the mix of riders will allow! Distances will be shorter at 50-60 miles, the pace will ease off and the cafe stops will be towards the end of the ride if possible. If you’ve been thinking of stepping up to the 16 ride this would be a good opportunity to … Read more…

Saturday 16 Road Ride – 27th December

Merry Christmas everybody! Planning on turning up for a 16 ride this Saturday. Thought we could decide route/distance/pace on the day depending on how everyone is feeling and whatever family duties may still be calling 🙂 Hope to see you there.

Pre-Christmas Saturday 16 Ride – 20th December

This weeks fun 16 ride will be lead by Adrian Longman, in his own words… “Hi Chaps, here’s the plan for Saturdays ride. \ As it’s pre-Christmas drinks week we’ll aim to be back at the Burrator Inn for 1p.m. The route is 62 miles and is the Western end of the Classic route taking us out to Lydford with the lumps of Batteridge, Pork and Merrivale on the return leg. Then its into the out for a well earned pint!! 🙂 The pace will be steady as we ease ourselves into a month or so of base riding. Greg … Read more…

Saturday 16 Road Ride – 13th December

Thanks to Adrian ‘the Jensie’ Longman for offering to lead this weeks 16 ride…in his words: It’s looking like a reasonable forecast again for Sat and a route out to Bodmin Moor is planned so that I shouldn’t get us lost. So it’s out to the bridge, Callington, Minions, Draynes Valley to Jamaica Inn, Colliford, Dobwalls, Looe and back to the ferry. Cafe stop will be Looe. I think steady will be the order of the day as I suspect that most of us will have struggled to get the miles in of late. See you Sat. Cheers, Adrian. Route:  http://www.strava.com/activities/116964941 This is a great route … Read more…
