Apparently a couple of days before the YOGi’s take on the Exmouth to Exeter Tour route there’s a bunch of professional teams having a go at it… 😀 Still not too late to sign up btw…click here! <– spot the shameless plug!
So what better than a ride out on a school day to watch (with apologies to all the teachers, but you’ve just had a massive holiday so not too much sympathy!). We’re planning to enjoy the action at Haytor and will take the scenic route across the moors to get there.
We’ll leave YOGi HQ (B&Q March Mills) at 9 prompt and head out through Boringdon to Cadover and on to Yelverton. If you want a bit of a lay in meet us here at about 9:45 (YOGi time of course!). From Yelvy it’s up Peek Hill and along to Princetown, then Two Bridges and Postbridge. Just before the climb we turn right and head cross country to Widdecombe. This will be a familiar route to many as the 14’s went this way a couple of weeks ago. They tell me there’s a wee lump to climb up to Haytor now the myth and mystery has been dispelled. (Of course, that could have been spotted dick delirium but you’ll have to ask Ian about that!) 🙂
Depending on numbers we may split in to smaller groups but the intention is that it will be a steady but social ride. 🙂
The Tour is due at the bottom of Haytor from about 12:30 so we should be there in plenty of time to soak up some of the atmosphere before the peloton comes through. After the excitement of seeing the riders and their entourages we’ll regroup at the top of Haytor before heading down to Ashburton and Pear Tree for a cafe stop at either the Dartmoor Lodge or the South Devon Railway cafe. The return journey will be through the backroads to South Brent, Ivybridge and back to base.
Suggested route to Haytor is here.
Of course some may want to ride on to Exeter to see the finish and this is in easy reach from Haytor with just Haldon Hill to get over! This will make for a much longer day but hey, they’re only here once a year! Just keep those legs fresh for Saturday… 🙂
