Big Al is leading again this weekend with cycle paths, country lanes and tunnels the order of the day……
We will meet at B&Q as usual and then we’ll make our way out of Plymouth using the traffic free Plymbridge cycle track (or National Cycle Network Route 27, if you prefer). After emerging from the first of today’s tunnels we hop off the cycle track for our first leg stretcher, the hill up to Clearbrook. Once at the top we re-join the cycle track and head out to Yelverton.
From Yelverton we head out to Walkhampton and then bear left to Horrabridge. Leaving Horrabridge via Jordan Lane we climb up on to the moors towards Morshop. At the crossroads we head left and around the Golf course before heading down into Tavistock where we will have our café stop at Bob’s.
The café stop comes at the 16mile mark of the ride.
Suitably refreshed with food and drink we will return to Yelverton via the traffic free Drake’s trail and through our second tunnel of the day. At Yelverton we will return to Plymouth via the cycle track, our final tunnel and back into B&Q.
The ride is around 30.6 miles with a few up and down bits but will be conducted at a 10-12mph average pace.
Early forecasts suggest heavy showers with an 11mph SW wind gusting to 22mph, but there is very little of this route on open moorland so the lanes should afford us a degree of shelter.
Hope to see you there.
